- Kevin Philipps:
Kevin Philipps was banging in goals on a consistent basis for Sunderland which helped them earn a promotion to the Premier League. Not many expected Kevin to do the same in the top division but the Englishman proved them wrong as he went to score 30 league goals in his debut season in the Premier League.
- Diego Costa:
Chelsea signed Costa by triggering his release clause at Atletico Madrid. It turned out to be a valuable signing for the Blues as Costa scored 20 goals in his first season in the league to help Chelsea win the title and also scored in the League Cup final to win it against Tottenham Hotspur. He scored 52 goals in 89 matches for Chelsea before returning to Atletico Madrid.
- Ruud Van Nistelrooy:
The great Dutchman created chaos in the Premier League as he scored 23 league goals in his debut season with Manchester United. He was very influential in the Champions League and was a massive reason for United scoring 87 league goals that season. His spell at United only got better next season as he went on to become a great player in United’s history.
- Gianfranco Zola:
Having joined Chelsea from Parma, Zola made an instant impact for the Blues. He scored 12 goals in the season for Chelsea out of which four came in a FA Cup winning campaign. He won the FWA Footballer of the Year award in spite of the fact that he didn’t even play the whole season.
- Fernando Torres:
Torres signed for Liverpool from Atletico Madrid and it is safe to say that he was simply outstanding in his very first season with the Reds. The Spaniard went on to score 24 goals in just 33 appearances, stunning almost everyone. He became the first player to score 2 consecutive hat-tricks in the Premier League in 60 years.
Michu was signed by Swansea from Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2012. The Spaniard had an immediate effect on the league as he was more than often involved in the goals. He scored 18 goals in the league, 22 in total to help Swansea to a memorable League Cup title win. He also went to earn an spot in the International team for his amazing performance.
- Jurgen Klinsmann:
The German was signed by Spurs from French club Monaco in 1994. He played an important role in his first season scoring 21 league goals in 30 appearances. In spite of winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award, he went to join Bayern Munich and return for a second spell with Spurs in the second half of the 1997-98 season.
- Japp Stam:
Stam was signed by Manchester United in the 1998-99 season. With his experience, Stam instantly settled into United’s backline. This helped United immensely as they went to win the historic treble that season. Stam was also named in the PFA Team of the Year and also recognized as the UEFA Club Best Defender of the Year award.
- N’Golo Kante:
Very few knew who N’Golo Kante was when he was signed by Leicester City from French club Caen. To everyone’s surprise, the Frenchman had a stellar first season with Leicester as he turned to be an engine in the midfield. Kante relentlessly worked hard to protect the back four and at the same time allowed his attackers to do the damage with utmost freedom. It was his phenomenal contribution that helped Leicester win the Premier League in one of the most surprising events in football.
- Sergio Aguero:
The Argentine has really been a blessing to the Premier League. Signed in the 2011-12 season from Atletico Madrid, Aguero was into goals almost instantly. He went on to score 23 goals in the league that season and the best part of that being his injury time winner in Manchester City’s final match against QPR which helped them beat United to win the Premier League. Currently Aguero is City’s all time highest goal scorer as he has been constantly amongst goals.
