Real Madrid clinch the Champions League 2016-17
The much-awaited Champions League final was played at Cardiff on the 3rd of June, 2017. It is safe to say that the match started on a great note as both participants, Real Madrid and Juventus opted for an attacking approach to the game. It was the Los Blancos who took the lead through none other than their starlet Cristiano Ronaldo. But an outstanding strike from former Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic brought both the teams on level terms. On came the second half and Zinedine Zidane’s men took much better control of the game as Casemiro struck home from a deflection to beat past Gianluigi Buffon to take the lead once again. Ronaldo scored his second of the match a few minutes later and substitute Asensio scored the fourth for the Spanish giants to retain the Champions League title. It was a historic win for Madrid in more than one way as Zidane’s magical spell continues.
Borussia Dortmund part ways with Thomas Tuchel
It has been a mixed season for the German club given their not up to the mark performance in the Bundesliga this season. Dortmund though were termed the DFB Pokal winners at the season end, with a big positive to take to the next season. Thomas Tuchel’s men remained unbeaten at home the entire season, which was a stunning achievement. Rumours were stating Tuchel’s relationship going bad with the board, and although Dortmund commented nothing while announcing the departure of Thomas Tuchel, it seems like the rumours had some significant credibility about it. Tuchel’s successor is already finalised as Ajax boss Peter Bosz is announced the new Dortmund manager following a very successful spell at Ajax where he took a young Dutch side to the Europa League final very impressively.
Griezmann likely to stay at Atletico Madrid for another season
The transfer window hasn’t yet started, but the social media is all filled up with rumours. A week back rumours sparked that the Frenchman was keen on leaving Atletico Madrid and was set to join Manchester United given their desperate need to sign quality attacking players. Following the latest news where Atletico Madrid have been handed over the transfer ban, there have been rumours stating that Griezmann will hold back his desire to move away from Atletico for one more season until the ban gets lifted. It is a great gesture by Griezmann if the news is true, showing his loyalty to the club and sticking around in tough times. But this does change a lot of things for United, and it is interesting to see whom do they go for, for their attacking options.
