Leroy Sane does not make it to Russia
In a shocking team selection that saw Leroy Sane out of contention from the 23-men final squad that will fly to Russia. Low’s decision of dropping Sane comes as a shocker, considering the 22-year old dazzling winger had a prolific season at the Etihad helping them win the Premier League title. He was pivotal to City’s attacking game, and his game plan does suit Low’s all attacking approach. Draxler and Reus are two players who can play on the wings, else Low will be short on options on the flanks.
Sebastian Rudy and Goretzka make it to Russia and so does Mesut Ozil who found his touch right before the World Cup. Julian Brandt was the man who replaced Sane, not a like for like replacement though. Brandt had a decent season with Leverkusen where he scored 12 times and assisted 7 times. Neuer will be Germany’s undisputed goalkeeper as it was made official by the German team. Boateng also makes his way in after having to force off the field in the first leg of Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. Overall, Germany has a potent team and can replicate the magic of Brazil by winning two on a trot.
Fred arrived at Manchester
It may be official soon enough that Brazilian midfielder Fred will tie his knot with Manchester United. Plying his trade for Shakhtar Donetsk for 5 years, Fred is a diminutive midfielder possessing the Brazilian flair and a strong physical presence in the midfield. Mourinho had hinted at a possible Brazilian signing, and Fred had been under his radar for quite some time now. The midfield will require some work after Carrick hung up his boot last month, and Mata and Fellaini still playing as fringe players. However, Fred is not a defensive minded midfielder and that won’t be Mourinho’s concern considering Herrera and Matic in that position.
Fred’s arrival may mark a turn in Mourinho’s fortunes and Pogba will look to create a destructive pair with Matic or Herrera shielding the back line.
Fekir deal still up for grabs
Nabil Fekir is Liverpool’s top target after acquiring the services of Fabinho and Naby Keita. Fekir, a Lyon graduate and a stalwart now, had agreed personal terms, but there remains complication over his transfer on the grounds of the transfer fee. Liverpool wants to settle the deal at £50 million while Lyon want another £20million on their talisman. Besides Memphis Depay, Fekir was their star man, and created a buzz when Neymar was handed the Ligue 1 player of the year award instead of Fekir.
A talented attacking midfielder who can be deployed on the wings and has deadly precision from set pieces, Fekir’s arrival would mean an end to either Milner or Henderson’s career, the latter unlikely to be.
