Arturo Vidal joins Barcelona

After a series of rumours and expected transfers, where Inter Milan was expected to be his best suitor, FC Barcelona appeared from nowhere and struck a £20m deal on a three-year basis. The links grew at a rapid rate from previous week, and it was soon announced by FCB that the 31-year old Chilean was on his way to Camp Nou.

Vidal’s capture has sparked amazement among many after high profile purchases all ready being made. The departure of Iniesta has only strengthened Barcelona’s position in the market, and their sudden acquisition of Malcolm is a testimony to Valverde’s dynamic transfer policies. The Chilean despite his age will provide excellent back up to Busquets who was visibly tired as the past season grew old. Vidal hasn’t released any official statement yet, but he would relish the chance to play alongside Rakitic, Coutinho, Busquets, and of course Lionel Messi.

Barcelona have a midfield of riches and may well find themselves superior on the paper when compared to eternal rivals Real Madrid who chose to remain docile following Ronaldo’s departure.

Man City bags FA Community Shield

Manchester City has defeated Chelsea in enthralling fashion and bagged the first silverware of the 2018-19 season. Much was expected of Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea who had a terrific pre-season tour, but his side seemed to be toothless against an exciting attacking force. Pep’s city started in tremendous fashion as Aguero drilled his effort to score his 200th goal in Man City colour after collecting a pass from youngster Phil Foden.

The Argentine was at it again, and after some neat work by Bernardo Silva, Aguero showed his calmness by slotting a perfect effort. Chelsea threatened at patches, but the midfield of Jorginho, Barkley, and Fabregas couldn’t run the show, and Morata continued to be a peripheral figure. C. Hudson-Odui was Chelsea’s brightest and effective star going forward. Sarri will not think much of the result, but he knows that in a bid to revive Chelsea’s chances of retaining the League title, and as well as play a dynamic and attacking football.

Willian pledges his allegiance to Chelsea, for the present season

The Brazilian winger, whose absence in pre-season games fuelled a possible Real Madrid transfer was quashed by the player himself, and has said that he will continue his game under Sarri. However, he has also kept the doors open for United boss Mourinho to lure him in, by stating that he would jump the ship to play under Mourinho again.

This has puzzeled both the fan bases, but Sarri hasn’t shown any concern yet, and Mourinho is yet to speak on the topic. Manchester United is ready to amp their interest in signing Alderweireld, but a stable fee is yet to be negotiated.
