Barcelona end the year with a bang
The El Clasico is one of the fiercest rivalries in football, pitting two of the best teams against each other. FC Barcelona routed Real Madrid at their home ground of Santiago Bernabeu. Madrid had an unforgettable 2017, the club won five trophies this year, the most recent, the Club World Cup. But their start to the La Liga season has been dreadful. Currently sitting at number four with 14 points behind the leaders, Madrid have never looked so disarrayed. Their rivals, on the other hand, started the season under new coach Ernesto Valverde and have looked unstoppable. Without a single loss and sitting comfortably at the top, all that was needed was a win against Real Madrid. The afternoon kickoff started with Real Madrid orchestrating the match. The first few minutes Madrid dominated the game with their attacking might. They would have even scored if Ronaldo had placed a shot or Benzema’s header did not deflect off the post. The second half saw Barcelona take over completely with Luis Suarez slotting it home from a free Rakitic run and Lionel Messi converting a penalty from a Carvajal handball. To add misery, Aleix Vidal added a third from a bootless Messi assist in the final moments. Although many games are left to play it will be an uphill task for Real Madrid to retain their title this season.
Naby Keita pressurises for a Liverpool move in January
Naby Keita is not happy with his current club and will pressurise for a move to England in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old had agreed to a move to English club Liverpool in the summer window of June 2018, but Keita does not want to wait until June. The midfielder is not happy with the team’s position and lack of trophies and wants to move a new club. Keita’s current club RB Leipzig is currently in the fifth place in Bundesliga, and they have also been knocked out of Champions League. Keita feels there is not much challenge in his current position and wants to accelerate his transfer in the winter window. Jurgen Klopp has been after Keita for a long time, but Leipzig rejected his earlier bids. But they ensured a new deal where Keita would be sold in the summer after paying more than 50 million pounds.
