Barcelona finally land Ousmane Dembele
After days of speculation, denial, and ignorance Barcelona finally lands an ideal replacement for Neymar Jr. The Coutinho Saga seems to have hit a dead-end, and it looked like Barcelona would have to make peace with Paulinho as their only signing of the year after Nelson Semedo. Dembele being an ambidextrous forward has caught the attention of the World after his Dortmund exploits, and a €105 million investment plus €30 million add-ons doesn’t seem to be a lot after seeing where the transfer market is headed to. Dembele penned down a 5-year contract, and the influence of Samuel Umtiti might have rendered the deal plausible.
Dembele has big boots to fill, but the 20-year old Frenchman is no stranger to such limelight. His Dortmund days saw him face the likes of Jerome Boateng, Lahm, Arturo Vidal, and Xabi Alonso amongst other high-profile players. Dembele had put up a stellar display against Real Madrid when BVB Dortmund met the former twice in UEFA Champions League group stage last year.
Messi hits his 350th La Liga Goal
Amongst the turmoil inside the club, the little Argentine Maestro managed to hit a superb brace to register his 350th goal for the Catalans. Deportivo Alaves has proven themselves to be a tough opposition especially in their own den, and it took 54 minutes for Barcelona to break the deadlock after a tremendously well-placed cut back from Jordi Alba, and Messi got ahead of his market to slot in a superb finish. Eleven minutes later, Alaves defence crumbled when Alexis tried to be a tad too clever and allowed Alcacer to pick his pocket, and the Spanish forward played in Messi for his 351st goal in Catalan colours.
Messi could have bagged another hat-trick when he cleverly dinked one over Pacheco only to see the woodwork block his much-deserved hat-trick. Barcelona started with a different three-man forward line that saw Messi play as Centre forward and flanked by Deulofeu and Aleix Vidal. Valverde will have to make such rotations till Suarez is deemed fit enough to start. Alcacer looked lively off the bench, and he is eager to grab a stranglehold on the starting eleven.
Kevin Mirallas could well bid farewell to his Everton days
The Belgian could well be on his way out of England as the player was allowed to leave for Belgium for unspecified reasons ahead of Everton’s Chelsea fixture. With the Toffees bringing in the services of Gylfi Sigurdsson it looked like Mirallas could see less game time. Mirallas could well be on his way to Turkey to ply his trade for Besiktas, while a move to former club Olympiacos could also materialise. However, Everton are expecting the Greek club to spill out more money if they are to avail the service of the 29-year old Belgian.
