Footballers who could be wearing Iniesta’s jersey number 8 next season

  1. Luis Alberto:

Alberto is not one of the popular names in this list but he is a good option for Barcelona. Alberto has been playing in the La Liga from a long time now and is well versed with the demand of the quality in Spain. His passing and creative abilities have been very effective this season as he has scored 12 goals and been assisted in 19 other goals. It shouldn’t be an issue to tempt Alberto to join Barcelona should the Catalan team desire to sign him.

  1. Christian Eriksen:

The Danish midfielder has been simply brilliant for Tottenham Hotspur even when given the task to play deep.  His passing has been exquisite and a delight to watch. Eriksen has the ability to score goals and at the same time create chances for his teammates, which is somewhat Iniesta did very consistently. It wouldn’t take Eriksen time to settle in at Barcelona and with his experience, it will be much better to go after his signature rather than a very young midfielder.

  1. Denis Suarez:

Denis has been in the Barcelona team for some time now but is yet to feature regularly for the Catalans. At the moment, there is a lot to learn for Denis. His positioning and skills on the ball are amazing but he needs to be more decisive and clinical with his finishing. Having already seen what Denis can do, Barcelona can opt to not look elsewhere and develop him to his best potential. Denis will be getting more game time now and should make the most out of it to replace the great Iniesta.

  1. Thiago Alcantara:

The former Barcelona midfielder is now at Bayern Munich. He was one of Barcelona’s finest young midfielders and it was clearly a mistake by Barcelona to sell him to Bayern.  Thiago has developed and matured brilliantly as a central midfielder and is a key member now of the Bayern squad. He is a beautiful passer and can also contribute with his goals. It will hardly be an issue for him to gel with the current Barcelona players and would surely make an instant impact. Barcelona should do everything possible to bring Thiago back.

  1. Philippe Coutinho:

After achieving his dream move, Coutinho is yet to flourish fully at Barcelona. He hasn’t been able to get as much time as we expected but with Iniesta’s departure, the Brazilian will become their most important midfielder. The former Liverpool man has the ability to tear up defenses with his incisive passing and playmaking abilities. It  is Coutinho’s responsibility now to step into Iniesta’s shoes as the Catalan fans will be looking up to him to make the difference.
