Cristiano Ronaldo and the records he could still break

He is level with Platini and 3 goals behind Robbie Keane

It seems like every time Ronaldo puts on his national colours, he would score a goal, and the Portuguese is already the second highest goal scorer ever in history of International matches. With 2020 Euro qualifications ready to begin, Ronaldo could break Platini’s record of scoring the most number of goals in the finals with both paired at 9 goals each. That record does not seem like a long shot, because the mercurial Portuguese has scored in every major International tournament at least once.

Before toppling Platini, Ronaldo can score 4 more goals to go past Robbie Keane in terms of most goals scored by a player in Euro qualifying campaigns. Ronaldo currently sits with 20 goals to his name. He hasn’t played a single minute since Portugal’s exit from the World Cup at the hands of Uruguay, but Santos has reiterated that his star man will always lurk behind them.

Highest goal scorer in the World

The 33-year old Ronaldo is currently standing at the second position in terms of International goals with 85 goals to his name. He is behind a certain Ali Daei of Iran, who scored 109 times, but is a relatively unknown name due to spending all his life playing Asian football. With Daei retiring at 45 two years ago, the Portuguese International looks just about young to score 25 more goals as he expressed his desire to play the World Cup in Qatar 4 years from now. Looking at the brighter side, he is already Europe’s greatest ever scorer, and even if he doesn’t reach the 109 goals landmark, he could certainly become the first European to net 100 goals.

Most European titles

One can be forgiven to think Ronaldo has the highest number of Champions League under his belt after his otherworldly seasons with Real Madrid. His tally of 5 European cups, with one of them coming with Manchester United, Ronaldo is one shy from another Blancos legend, Paco Gento. Gento’s 6 CL titles came with Real Madrid, and with that record fairly sealed with Ramos, Messi, and Modric now tied at 2nd with 4 trophies a piece, Ronaldo, whose move to Juventus gave the fans hope for their elusive CL title post Del Piero era, could well see him level with Gento, and with few more seasons to come, well who knows!

50 assists in European cups

Ronaldo has developed into a lethal scorer who seems like can score with every legal part of his body, but there is always another side to this man. He has 42 assists to his name, which is the highest ever, and he could himself reach the 50 assists tally, untouched. Under Allegri, Ronaldo tends to stick to the flanks, of course he does move in the middle, but with Dybala and Mandzukic equally lethal, the Portuguese could well show his passing prowess and reach that mark.

Most Champions League appearances

This is a record, which would need some beating as Ronaldo is currently sitting with 158 appearances, and is 15 matches behind Iker Casillas, who is still playing with Porto FC. The Spanish legend could well hung up his boot this season with his contract with Porto reaching the endgame, but given his tenacity, Ronaldo may need a season or two to catch up with him.
