5 signings Manchester United should have made this season

  1. Toby Alderweireld:

If there was one position Manchester United definitely needed stability, it was definitely in the heart of their defence. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling didn’t look convincing last season and it seems Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof need more time and support to get used to the style of the Premier league. Signing a player of Toby Alderweireld’s quality was a must for Jose Mourinho and it is a shame that despite the Belgium’s interest in moving to Old Trafford, the move didn’t happen this summer.

  1. Harry Maguire:

The Leicester center-back had a very good time in Russia in the 2018 World Cup and it looked like he was moving away from the Foxes to join Manchester United. United would have loved to sign a sharp and smart center-back in the form of Maguire, who can not only defend but also score goals. Maguire has been a good reader at the back and would have surely brought more composure and stability at the back had United managed to sign him this summer.

  1. Alex Sandro:

United desperately needed good full-backs this season and having signed Diogo Dalot this summer, we did expect United to go ahead and sign a left back too. United don’t have much options when it comes to possess a natural left-back with Luke Shaw the only candidate available. Alex Sandro has been in fantastic form and had United signed him it would have added a different dynamic to United’s play on the left. Although Luke Shaw has looked good in the three matches played so far, a player like Sandro was much needed.

  1. Willian:

United have a lot of players who can play on the left as far as the attack is concerned but the same cannot be said when it comes to play on the right. There were doubts over Willian’s future at Chelsea this summer as United had the perfect opportunity to sign the Brazilian. But it seems that Ed Woodward and United’s management weren’t willing to invest in the Brazilian given his age and it was a huge loss for the Red Devils given how they are struggling to create from the right.

  1. Ivan Perisic:

The Croatian winger had a very good spell in the 2018 World Cup in Russia this year and amid the end of the tournament it was rumored that the player would leave Inter Milan this summer. Amid a lot of rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United, the move didn’t materialize. Perisic is very versatile while playing forward and he was someone who would have added a different dimension to United’s attack. Jose Mourinho too went on to express his desire to have him at United but alike many he too ended up at the club he originally was.
